Nand International School

A village in Jamui should not have to send its children away to have them taught well. Nand International School opened at Penghi Barhat, Jamui, Bihar in September 2025 — the first institution the foundation built, and the plainest statement of what it believes: that a child's address must not decide the quality of their education.

Lalita Nand taught without ceremony and without an audience. This school is the shape that memory takes — a classroom in the village itself, open to the children of families who were never asked whether they wanted one.

The school stands in Penghi Barhat itself. No child has to leave the village — or the district — to be taught properly.

The ribbon was cut by the children, not by a guest of honour, and the district papers carried it. The school belongs to the place it stands in.

Attendance, spending and results are published the way the foundation publishes all its work: small numbers, told straight, on the day they are known.

The yard first
The morning starts outside, everyone together, before anyone sits down. It is the one part of the day the whole school does at once.

Small rooms, full benches, a teacher within arm's reach of every child in them.
And the occasions
Teachers' Day, 6 September 2025 — the school marked it in its first fortnight, remembering a former President who was a teacher first.
